ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus. In some cases, this endometrium will begin to grow outside of the uterus. This condition is known as endometriosis.

Symptoms of endometriosis include pain before or after periods or during bowel movements, pain during intercourse, infertility, or excessive vaginal bleeding.

In treating endometriosis, oral contraceptives are used to manage pain. GnRH agonists can also be used. Surgical options include resection, endometrial ablation, and a hysterectomy procedure.
